Garfagnana

Garfagnana is the base for our mountain
activities, set in river Serchio valley nestled
between the Apuane Alps famous for its marble and the Apennines
which is the natural border between Tuscany and Romagna.

garfagnana

This region is a natural collection of woodland, gorges, rivers all set against mountain peaks. Forts and medieval villages are scattered throughout and are tangible evidence of a thousand year culture which is still evident in present day.

From the bottom of the valley you can enter untamed, shaded glens or discover open valleys with wide sun terraces, finally arriving at the rocky, indented peak of the Apuane Alps or at the grassy and undulating summit of the Apennines.

These dramatic surroundings are the ideal setting for Tuscanynwild’s activities, which have been purposely designed to help you embrace Garfagnana’s natural beauty. Our intent (with the help of our guides, who also double as a fire brigade) is to help both local and tourists to safely enjoy this environment by maintaining clear and secure paths and rivers.

It is a region where above all, hospitality is of great importance to the people, who place a great deal of emphasis in ensuring you take away a slice of the traditional Garfagnana life.

The wild Porcini mushrooms, truffles, game products and a variety of chestnut products are just some of the many examples of what the region is most famous for and proud of.
