DESCRIPTION OF THE CANYONS

Orrido di Botri

This is the most famous of the creeks in Tuscany, a harsh and imposing chalky gorge, with steep faces, deepened in time from the cold water of the Rio Pelago torrent. The canyon is set in a typical Apennine landscape characterised by the rocky environment with beech tree forest.

The upper forks in the sections of the canyon, called Mariana and Rebellino, descend from the buttress overlooked by the peaks of the Rondinaio’s mountain and the Tre Potenze that reach 2,000 meters.

For beginner level

The lower section of the Orrido di Botri up to the location of Piscine is the perfect introduction to canyoning for beginners, kids and less confident participants. The only requirements are trekking shoes and safety helmets and, to make the experience more enjoyable, we recommend a light wetsuit, as the waters can reach cold temperatures.

The walking time to reach gorge is approximately 120 minutes.

For expert level

The Orrido di Botri also offers a more challenging section on the west branch of the Rio Marian, which is more suitable for experts or very confident beginners. This section is a beautiful predominantly vertical descent which is, unfortunately, dry for most of the season but nevertheless amazing.

After this section, you will reach a beautiful environment consisting of vertical narrow faces that, in parts, the sides of the faces meet so closely that they almost touch.
